Merchandising Strategy Intern
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM STRUCTURE:
Our internship program is designed to provide real-world experience that is directly related to your academic discipline and career goals and provide you a better understanding of career options for your degree. This 10-week internship program runs from June 6th – August 12th.
Components of the program include:
· Hands-on experience working as a member of a specific department and team
· Assigned projects to accelerate learning of key functions/process
· Cross-functional departmental exposures within the corporate office
· Exposure to other business areas to ensure full understanding of the company structure and strategy
· Professional development sessions and networking opportunities
· End of program presentation of project findings, and recommended course of action to executives
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
· Merchandising Strategy team works in close partnership with the Merchandising team and cross-functional stakeholders to inform and support the development of assortment & merchandising strategies that drive Sales and Value growth
o Develop insights and analyses across category trends, consumer behavior, promotion dynamics, and brand & competitive landscapes
o Assess the performance of past and current initiatives to provide merchant leaders with a thorough understanding of drivers of category performance and actionable insights that enable data-driven decisions and uncover growth opportunities
o Deliver informative assessments of the competitive landscape of beauty
THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:
· Exposure and collaboration with Merchandising leadership and Cross-Functional teams: Planning & Inventory, Finance, Analytics, Consumer Insights
· Be on a team that supports Ulta Beauty assortment decisions and product strategy by gathering and analyzing data from multiple internal and external sources
· Guide the team in defining templates, reporting, and materials for category-specific reviews and Brand meetings
· Identify opportunities for automation of processes and data analytics/reports
THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:
· Currently pursuing Bachelor’s degree and entering final year of school
· Strong academic record
· Previous work experience and involvement with on-campus organizations or activities.
· Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
· Strong organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail and sense of urgency
· Desire to work in a fast-paced environment and interact with various levels of leadership
· Proven command of Excel, PowerPoint, Word
· Inquisitive nature and proactive approach to opportunity identification
· Interest in pursuing a career in Strategy, Merchandising, Insights/Analytics in a Retail environment
· Exposure/experience digging into Market Research, Competitive landscape, Beauty trends a plus
